Field of Sunflowers

Field of Sunflowers 

We ran through the sunflower fields 
full of unbridled fear 
as the wind whistles through the trees 
of a late summer evening. 

You call to me to begin again 
a race beyond time, 
fought not against the clocks. 

For our feet churn in rhythm 
and a rhyme so sweet 
whistles through the effervescence 
of the damsel sunflower stalks, 
where we once did meet. 

As green meets yellow 
dotted in black 
and filled with dismay, 
for the field's azure sky 
has now turned a placid grey. 

As the delicate plants now wave 
their petal-like hands in the breeze, 
Looking on, my soul's been granted 
just one last bit of peace. 

As the gentle stalks wave, 
their fragile heads nod, in song, 
deferring to the heavens above.

i think in the first line, "run" would be better...the rest of the poem is in present tense...

but wow, i see this as the run of life...the changing seasons...running into twilight...running toward heaven...or hoping that is where we will stop...

I was filled with wonder and not dismay reading this beautiful , descriptive poem. You are so right , we race across time and don't take our time enjoying the small precious moments that mean alot...Bravo............
