A Man Who Was BrokenA Poem by D Poet KEven a stranger can make a difference...I was walking down an aisle And outside I noticed this old man He was sitting on the corner As he motioned his hand I looked around the store Then realized he wanted me Curious as to what he wanted I went up to he.
No fear traveled my body Nor did any doubts So as I went to his side Kneeled down and crouched He reached into his pocket And a note he pulled out No words would he speak No sounds from his mouth Though his warm light brown eyes Spoke to me.
A few moments of silence I was unsure of what he wanted "Open the letter, maddam" Were the only words spoken "Who are you?" I asked aloud He pointed to the paper And on it said: "A Man Who Was Broken" Saddened by the title I looked up to this old man With my watery blue eyes "Please read it, for you'll understand." So I opened up this note And I began to read:
I had no idea what I was here for This earth was so cold and darkly blue Until I met the woman I adore You helped me through the darkest nights And gave me a light to see I struggled a thousand and one fights Until you made this man in me I loved you from the beginning And I loved you till the end Don't ask anybody questions Not even your friends For though I left your side It was for your own good Just picture me at night I'll always be looking over you Our love was too strong to break No matter what they tried to do Yet God is calling me, babe And I guess my time is through I couldn't give you this letter For I don't want to see you in tears So I found this beautiful lady Who will give you this my dear She'll be your friend For this I'm sure For looking in her eyes I knew her heart was pure I love you, and I forever will Please don't give up on us For even though we're apart I know you can feel my love."
And at that moment My heart began to melt As this man grabbed my hand And a hug was felt He laid his head on my shoulders With one palm in mine "Please give her this letter And be her friend for life For she's a wonderful woman And I think you'd be quite A good friend for the love of my life" And as I made him this promise In my arms he died.
I gave the letter to the woman Such a beautiful old lady she was And best friends we became A mother - daughter love Is what we had to gain She's told me stories of that man Who was a hero in her eyes And we won't let eachother forget That wonderful man to, her and I. © 2008 D Poet KFeatured Review
