There Is No Goodbye

There Is No Goodbye

A Poem by Brown Eyed Girl
"

Children should never outlive their parents, everyone knows that, but older siblings shouldn't outlive their younger siblings either. Need I say more?

"

When the shadow of death slips in the room
And you see that someone you love must go
What can you do but try to be strong
Especially, when she doesn't seem to know...

If I say goodbye
I'm afraid you'll dry up in my mind,
And drift away like ashes in the wind,

If I stop to breathe,
I'm afraid my heart would end up drowning me
Like salty brine ushering sand into the deep

If I say goodbye
I'm afraid I might forget, or just lose sight
Like the shadows cast by clouds over the moon

If I close my eyes
I can see the smile you hide behind your eyes
Your amazing silent loving soul inside
Like the violin that brings stiff men to cry

I know If you can make me feel this way
You were a rare jewel
Too fine to be held captive in this world
Too delicate for this harsh place

So If I hold your hand
Maybe I could grab onto your soul
and not let go
I must say thank you
without your anchor I would have drown in the undertow
You had the strength to pull us through

I must say thank you
But I can never say goodbye

This is absolutely beautiful. So poignant, and so simply put. No cumbersome embellishments, but the effect still works like magic.

You focused on what death brings, and not what it takes away - and that is what makes this piece stand out. No sobbing or dramatic tears, but sweet reminiscence of what had been before.

I especially love the ending:
'I must say thank you
But I can never say goodbye'

Great job. Love it :)
