we close our eyes

we close our eyes

A Poem by dovetailer
"

"...there are a few moments in life that make all the rest worth living..."

"

We close our eyes

in the seamless gray

of mundane existence

as far as the eye can see...

a row of cookie-cutter days...

each like the next

remarkable for being

unremarkable...

we close our eyes

and are drawn like swallows to Capistrano

to the few precious moments

heart-warming times

when love stayed the ticking clock

where the sun shone so bright

we'd shield our eyes

but could not break our gaze

from the beauty there

our heart beat so loudly in our chest

that all could hear...

or so we thought...

each moment was as perfect as the next

each kiss seemed to last forever...

we felt the blood

course through our veins

and love's touch send us rocketing

into the ether

we never thought it would end...

the weightlessness...

the certainty that they were

"THE ONE...”

but they weren't...

as it were...

we are given elation and loss in life...

but never in equal measure...

each love one pearl

on a chain of a thousand links...

few but precious...

oft revisited when

overwhelmed by the sameness

day by day...

we close our eyes

and once again

feel their touch...

taste the lips...

float away on

the breeze of their breath

on our skin...

beautiful depiction of a strange little life we hand over to conformity and expectations which are the links~ outside the boundaries are the pearls just waiting for the right soul to wear in the right moment~ fleeting~ the pain is in its fleeting aspect~
