choices

choices

We always rue missing the opportunities we would have loved... what if we haven't...yet

Choices

I look upon my life, critically

muse on where different choices

might have brought me...

had I made them

I wonder what I would be today

if I had gone to school as planned

and chosen the world to see...

made it my oyster

would I value success above all else?

have the bright sheen of success

instead of the matte finish of

mediocrity?

what friends would surround me?

would they be tried and true

or sycophants and toadies

a*s-kissers all?

what vocation would I pursue?

How did we know what we

wanted to be when we grew up?

did I choose well?

we have so few chances to get it right

there are few do-overs in life...

what if I was meant for greater things

and missed it

I might have been a writer of poetry

or an accomplished musician

it might have been I who discovered

the Post- It Note

o, ...what a knicker-twister this is

what if life is not a series of random

events at all, but choreographed...

we were meant to be

what if all roads actually "lead to Rome"?

that no matter what choices made

we would have found ourselves

right here at this moment

what if we were meant to love?

perhaps the fulfillment of our dreams

lies beyond a door ahead of us and

we haven't missed it at all

A very thought provoking and interesting poem. I wish I was able to answer the questions you ask.

well, one thing for sure, if one thing had been different, you wouldn't be writing this poetry, or writing it here, and some other group of friends would be enjoying your company, differently...i like it this way, you've filled a spot that needed filling, Ed
