A Night in the Graveyard with Sabrina (My Eternal Sorrow)

A Night in the Graveyard with Sabrina (My Eternal Sorrow)

A Poem by Doug

The barking of the dogs in the distance

Fades away as she gets closer.

It is at this spot that I have chosen to spend my recent nights.

I dig into the soft soil

Trying to reach her spirit

That is begging me to join her in the coffin.

With each shovel I scoop up a piece of my past

And toss it behind me

Where it joins the growing pile of dirt.

With each shovel I get closer to her.

Soon I find the coffin,

Which I open up to find her body like I last left it,

But on this night something is different.

As I speak to her corpse

She awakens from her sleep,

Turns her head,

And replies to me.

She tells me she is an angel

That God sent down from heaven,

To help me save my soul

And escape this depression.

As the sun begins to rise in the east

She hands me a handgun

And falls back to sleep.

I know what I must do

If I want eternal peace,

So I pull the trigger

But what happens is disappointing.

When I pulled the trigger

Nothing changed.

I was left sitting alone

With her corpse in this graveyard.
