New York City Highlights: THE DEAD WALK THE EARTH!!

A Story by Paige L. Brooks (Call me Andy)
"

this week in my english class we had to write a scary story and this is what i wrote...

"

Ringing in my ears, it hurts. My vision goes in and out of blurrieness. Finally eyes clear. I am on the ground turned on my side. I feel blood trickel down my forhead. I look across the street to see a soldier running at me gun in hand. Suddenly I am lifted to my feet and forced to run. He has his arm around me. He says to me, "You gotta keep going kid! Just run and don't look back! GO!" I do as I am told. I make way down the New York City Street running as fast as I can. I see people around me attcking each other. But, the people doing the attacking aren't lke normal everyday people. These people... they growl, some move slow, some fast, and with grey skin some flesh showing. I even saw a few with missing limbs. There are buildings on fire around me. Cars crashed into each other. A terrible sight for a once tall proud city. Suddenly I trip. I quickly turn to see what I triped on. It was one of those dastardly creatures! Eyes blood shot red. It turned and looked at me. It seemed to be eating what looked like an arm. With flesh hanging from its torn mouth it moves toward me. I stagger to my feet and take off. I think of what the soldier told me. Run and never look back.

I found a building and took refuge in it. I watched as people were shot, burned, and eaten alive. I was horrified. I took some boxes and set them against the doors and windows. Kept quiet. After a few days I had some company. A few survivors and a couple of soldiers who made it in alive and unharmed. Nothing but silence at first. Then the soldiers said,"We aren't supposed to say anything, but whats the point in keeping it a secret anymore. This was all a government experiment gone wrong. Apparently some scientists were making a new kind of drug to be used as a cure for cancer, then one of the scientists spilt some of it on his lab coat. He got sick and died in a matter of minutes. But, he didn't stay dead for long. He reanimated and started attacking the other scientists. Same thing happened to them and some how they got out and started attacking people on the streets and now its spread from New York City to other cities and states in a matter of days." Somehow I new it had to be something like that.

Banging at one of the doors. We paniced and the soldiers moved towards the door with their guns and what little ammo they had left. "Please! Please! Let me in! Please!" They opened the door and let the man in. He was another soldier. He said they were coming... the undead he said. I ran over to a ladder and set it agianst the side wall. I climbed up to find a string that I had hidden before the others came. "Up here quickly!" We all went up. I kicked the ladder off to the side and closed the latched door. The soldier thanked us, but I happened to notice blood on the arm of his army greens. "You were bitten." "What?" "You were bitten! You come in here and you were bitten!" Doors burst open down stairs, things crashed, and growls were heard. The other men grabbed the soldier, opened the latched door, and threw him down. As the undead approached him as he coward at the sight of the them, they do nothing. We supposed they new it was only a matter of time and sure enough within 5 minutes he died. Then reanimated.

The soldier closed the latched door and asked me,"Whats your name kid?" I look up at him in a silence and finally say,"My name... is Story." He nods. "Captain S. Mullins" I return the nod. Then we waited.

Three years has passed and this zombie plague had not ceased. We have all learned to follow one main rule. Kill the brain kill the creature. We are returning to our camp from our routine search for food, water, weapons, other supplies and survivors. Our heavily armored and protected camp. It is our home now. I am Story, 15 year old soldier of the United States... well, whats left of it. This is the world I have learned to grow up in. This... is my nightmare.
