Book that Became My Cage

Book that Became My Cage

A Poem by Doroteja Tia Tolic

I was lost
Endlessly wondering through an old library
Every book covered in dust
Not one of the titles ever discussed

My heart stopped me in place at the fartherest end of it
An ancient bookshelf with only one book
Something inside screamed at me to take it
As I did, I commit

Blank pages, all yellow from age
Nothing even slightly captured my attention
As the wind flew through the window
A photo fell from it, ever so slow

Eyes the color of the deepest ocean
And it took only a second. One.

As my hand flew towards the pen
I was lost in it again

Smile that touches the broken parts of your heart, and mend them back again
It indeed can

Pen dancing a waltz with my hand
Ink slowly, with the pages blend

I could not hear a sound
I could not see a sight

As my heart slowly escaped on the page
Of the book that suddenly became my cage
