Sugar Lake

Sugar Lake

A Poem by Singular D

At the empty boat house
the screen door slams shut
with a snap.
Drove out to the silence
to peel off the day.
As I walk to the waters edge
I step on the stones
and soft sand
I start to relax.
The waters cool envelops me.
I swim out past the dock
further into the turquoise lake
named Sugar.
I float
staring at the clear sky
Release
Peace
Feel weightless
small and alone.
Swim back to the shoreline,
Gathering driftwood,
fragments of the forest
that surround me now.
Time and tide
have transformed and
reshaped them
into
treasures
for me
to admire
I hope they do the same to me.
On this lake called Sugar.
