The BreakupA Poem by DomiAnother breakup poemWe’d never really worked, but we convinced ourselves we would We didn’t listen to our friends, or our parents We ignored that you were younger, and I was headed to college But one day it stopped working altogether We’d forced it for awhile, but I knew I’d lost you So when you sat there speechless, I finally let my words spill, “Is this it then?” You looked at me, with that glazed over stare in your eyes Finally you said, “It doesn't matter.” That’s what you always said. “Yes it does!” I yelled back, with all the furry I could, but still quiet enough that your family wouldn’t hear “Then we’re done,” you said, your voice monotone and lifeless. And all my hopes were shattered, all my fears sank in. You wouldn’t fight for me, you never had, But the hardest part wasn’t any of that. The hardest part was walking up your stairs, and seeing your parents. The hardest part was making them believe everything was okay. That was the last time I saw them, Because everything wasn’t okay, And it never was going to be okay again © 2014 DomiAuthor's Note
