For Mom

Hi mom, happy birthday.
Before we celebrate,
there's something I'd like to say:
Don't forget.

Don't forget who you are,
a strong, brave woman.
Don't forget how you raised me
to be the same way.
Don't forget how you raised my sister,
alone but unyielding.

Don't forget what you've lost,
pets, houses, faith in yourself.
Don't forget about those who support you,
your mom, your siblings, me.
Don't forget your mistakes,
that way they never happen again.

Don't forget how much it hurts,
to be enveloped in darkness.
But also don't forget how good it feels
to reach the sunlight again.

Lastly mom, please don't forget
how much we love you,
how much we support you,
how much we believe in you,
Even when you lose faith in yourself,
maybe even in everything,
Remember how much you are loved.
