A Poem by dogthedog

i like smells...

paper,

bark,

tree roots, ferns

mud,

worms

old houses,

certain days

like afternoons in a boat at the mouth of mill river...i like the smell of ...

radio parts, new plastic, baby s**t,green manure, tomatoes after it rains in the garden, sunlight on tomatoes, my grandmothers sheets wumping and billowing with the wind blowing

from the south in springtime...

my grandmothers pantry, molasses,

oil and kerosene

on the floor of the horse barn under uncle georges

seldom used boat...

the smell of loss,

the smell of incense the smell of the farm house when the

rains and lightening comes,

the smell of my great aunts hair in the brush she wont be using any more.

i like the smell of being alone, of boiling water just before you put the spagetti in the pot,

hot tar, sweat, horses, lawns after you mow them, lawns before you mow them,

the smell of lightening, the smell of thunder, the smell of the clothes of those you love in a house

in a vermont place, under the trees...
