In My Shoes

In My Shoes

A Poem by donny ingraham

Journey my path
walk this road
Learn of my struggles
be forced to make decisions
After walking within my shoes
can you judge me
Journey back in time
living life by muscle
Becoming flightless birds
every time seeing lights flash
Sleeping in the open air
no child should ever know
Fight each day to live
hoping for a better tomorrow
Refusing the scraps handed down
hoping to one day eat from the table
Being victim
while learning form the scars
Being caged
entering a new class of citizens
Wearing abuse
like clothes
Help never seems to come from above
only by my two hands

Yes, that's so true.
I've known some of the ugliest forms of abuse.
And, I don't want to survive,
I'd rather triumph over what happened and be a hero.
These words are inspiring beyond measure.

Wow, this is a pure life lesson. We sometimes need to see what other people go through to realize that things aren't as bad as we think. Terrific job.
