Duck

Duck

A Poem by D. Mansfield
"

driving home one evening I encountered the most beautiful cloud formation in the western sky with the setting sun as a backdrop. It was a duck racing me across the sky

"

When I spotted him, he was coming fast.

Laid out flat, ears pinned back, like a dive bomber.

The most intense shades, of pink and salmon,

he took up most, of the western sky,

with the setting sun, behind him, in all its glory.

He was high, over the cable TV building, when I spotted him,

“is he racing me?” I gave my truck some gas.

“oh s**t he is pulling away” I gunned the engine.

All the while, holding my cell phone, snapping pictures,

I captured a few, good ones, but ONE, of them. .

Was outrageously, good, and that picture,

captured, both my heart, and my imagination.

As I pulled over, to concede the race, I watched him fly away

never looking back. In a split second, he was breaking up. . .

still very beautiful. . . . but . . . Gone.

I've had a few birds fly along side while riding a motorcycle, but none were made of moisture and light. You've done a great job of telling us about your rare and wondrous experience.

Thank you Carl, I appreciate your kind words
The sky can really give us some beautiful portraits with the way clouds blend into familiar shapes against a backdrop of colour.
You took a fine snapshot of a gorgeous scene, and while gunning an engine at the same time. Great photography!
A moment to cherish and I enjoyed your description of the moment in time.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting, it's nice to meet you
... and did you wake up then!? Love the illogical silliness in your poem, like me you're yet another child that will never grow up! Me too. :)
