![]() DuckA Poem by D. Mansfield![]() driving home one evening I encountered the most beautiful cloud formation in the western sky with the setting sun as a backdrop. It was a duck racing me across the sky![]()
When I spotted him, he was coming fast. Laid out flat, ears pinned back, like a dive bomber. The most intense shades, of pink and salmon, he took up most, of the western sky, with the setting sun, behind him, in all its glory.
He was high, over the cable TV building, when I spotted him, “is he racing me?” I gave my truck some gas. “oh s**t he is pulling away” I gunned the engine.
All the while, holding my cell phone, snapping pictures, I captured a few, good ones, but ONE, of them. . Was outrageously, good, and that picture, captured, both my heart, and my imagination.
As I pulled over, to concede the race, I watched him fly away never looking back. In a split second, he was breaking up. . . still very beautiful. . . . but . . . Gone. © 2025 D. MansfieldReviews
