Currency

Currency

A Poem by D. Mansfield

I've lived a life both fast and loose.
Parties and people always set me free,
The rigors of work, and relationships
Weren't for me.

Don't own a microwave
In my house a TV is never heard.
But I have 5000 phone numbers,
So many it's absurd.

People see wealth as money, and property
I've avoided both,
I don't envy the man retiring
To a comfortable life,
On a boat.

I would rather get my news from people
And have the time to spend.
My currency is those people
Who have a minute to lend.
