Melting Beer Cans

Melting Beer Cans

A Story by D. Mansfield

Budwieser cans melting, in a three day old fire,
The rain thats fallen, for the last two hours, sizzles and pops.
Three of four, remain, drenched, depressed, not wanting it to end.

Since Friday, it has burned, and crackled and sent sparks and embers, gently floating to the heavens.
Our sleeping bags, right on the ground, circling the fire.

We chose cooler, instead of tent, fire for lantern, provided light.
Hundreds of beer cans, had melted in the fire since we discovered its ability.
Drugs all gone, but still high as can be.

Monday had wakened us, with pouring rain.
Nobody even considered leaving.
Not because it was Monday, or the rain.
It was a high, that smoldered, and had to burn out, before navigating back to reality, and responsibilities.

this was a fantastic ode. the high we get in nature and the company of good friends is like nothing else. focusing on the fire, we really feel the warmth and comfort the persona is experiencing. in this snapshot, we really form an understanding with the author. something simple yet important is taking place. and i can hear the crackling of the firewood.

Trust the weather Gods to send down rain once a camping trip gets underway. It always seems to happen when we have something to enjoy for a change. Sometimes we just have to make the most of the circumstances and even then we may still have a great time, as seems to be the case in your story. A bunch of friends relaxing around a fire and just enjoying the time away from the real world…what is not to like about that? We should all do it more for our own happiness. I enjoyed the moment shared in your words. ❤️

Thank you so much for reading and commenting on the story
This poem D gave me a feeling of contentment. Friends happy to be with each other, enjoying the camaraderie, despite the awful weather. If you can get that sort of high without drugs or drink, that is something to treasure and hold on to and remember. All good wishes.

Thank you Chris
camping should be fun, despite the elements…. watching beer cans melt is a game that one might play while flying high on drugs….the high lasts for a while, so enjoy and let the good times roll….despite the rain
nice write!
