Tripping over paperA Poem by D. Mansfield
You were riding piggy back, through the darkness
Tripping over paper, placed under your tongue. There was a man chasing us, through the woods with a gun. It was heavy, that trip, Only now do I feel the weight. We laughing our way through the woods, With me adjusting my gait. I was faster with you on my shoulders, faster, than I've ever been. When I lost you, the next morning, I went back to the party again. Forty years have passed, without seeing your face. I still look for you, just in case. Still I hope, sometimes I have dreams, Of running through that woods, with you on my shoulders, again. © 2024 D. MansfieldFeatured Review
