What is near

What is near

A Poem by D. Mansfield

Falls, cold, howling winds,
Remind us what is near,
Soon winter will be ushered in.
Uneasy with worry and fear.

Every season has two faces and that includes Winter.
Imagine mountains without dawn on their snowy slopes.
Imagine children never learning to skate or toboggan,
Yes, Winter is a pain in the everything but. everything living
needs rest. Plus this time of the year can invite chat between
two people who otherwise sit in silence, Is a time for playing
games - best are silly ones; clean out cupboards, stitch on
buttons, turn a collar, make a shelf, make a mess in kitchen.
Winter gives people the chance to wait for Spring, Summer
and Autumn knowing that -just as creatures hibernate, the
earth needs rest too. Winter isn't meant as n inconvenience
LIFE has its reasons.. If Winter is worsening, there might be a
reason for it.. think you?! Slidiing my soapbox away now..
but am apt to think why the moon, sun, and earth needs
Winter. Many, many thanks for posting such a fine poem, one
that invites thoughts.. sorry mine are so many!

Thank you for your reading my poem and commenting
Short but gripping poem depicting the dread of winter. I'm not a big fan of winter so I can relate to how you feel about it. Thank you for sharing.

Gee
Working in construction winter is by far and away my least liked season, cold, damp, dark with the festive break the only likeable part of it.
I like this, short and to the point

thank you for the kind words
I am reminded here that the drop in temperature can cause havoc. I think of the homeless, the poor and the elderly who dread the onset of winter. I see images of people huddled in coats. Indoors and out, trying to keep warm. And I curse our politicians for their lack of foresight in relying on foreign energy instead of ensuring our country is self sufficient. A short poem which generates much thought DM.

Are you having blackouts in England? I don't take the news, so current events I'm behind on?
