Winter

Winter

A Poem by D. Mansfield

Why does summer, seem to end so suddenly, but winter lingers?

As if the cold frost, has a memory, with its long icy fingers.

Summer ends, with school starting, but its still nice weather.

Winter lingers, til tulips poke their heads, and it happens just whenever.

Summers end, lulls us into hibernation, it makes us sad and blue.

Like a big dark cloud blew over, its departure long overdue.

We wait and wait diligently, for the yellow forsythia in the spring.

But now the nights are long, and an icy cold gets in the rain.

Summertime is magical, its damp grass, in the wee hours of the night.

The pumpkins bring the frost, the weather herds us indoors, and out of sight.

Winter conjures loneliness in my now “old mans head”

But of course I will enjoy it, quietly, with all the books unread.

So true winter does linger and the frosts bite. My favourite season is spring so I will bide my time. Lovely descriptive poetry DM.

Thank you so much Chris, I appreciate
I see Tulips...and sigh. Yes, winter a good time to catch up on reading.
But I do like the cooler weather....I like its crispness.
Nicely written.
