Rearview Mirrors

Rearview Mirrors

A Poem by D. Mansfield

Life comes equipped, with rear-view mirrors.

We Try to ignore them, but they make things clearer.

Forever avoiding, that rearward glance.

Too much history, to leave it to chance.

All the baggage, of our lives sits there.

Right over our shoulder, never going anywhere.

And there it will stay, sit , and fester.

Until we look at it, with more than a gesture.

It has to be opened, and examined with care.

All of those things, we hid somewhere.

Hindsight and memoir-ing is quite a "rearward glance" that has more functionality than reminiscing. Poetry is quite an avenue, when we let it, for rearview mirroring. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for reading and commenting, and your right this is a great outlet for it
Nice literally device here of using the rear view mirror as a metaphor for the subconscious mind. All of our memories, good and bad, are stored there. We must recognize them, but then we must also let them go.
