Fear

Fear

A Poem by D. Mansfield

The ground beneath you is shifting,
It's like falling into a burning well.
Stepping ever so slightly
It becomes a liquid hell.

It boils, it shifts, trapping you,
As you fall to the ground you smell,
the pungent odor around you,
fear, has its own, special smell.

To eaches imagination it breeds
Until it sucks, all the feeling from your mind.
Don't let it get, ahead of you
You won't win, coming from behind.

An intense write Danny. I like the idea that fear is fluid, has a temperature and a smell. Fear can certainly make you a prisoner. I have seen people I know suffer fear at what appears to be such small things. It requires understanding and empathy. I held my sister’s hand for three hours on a holiday flight once. She was terrified of flying. I have also seen real fear of spiders and the reaction some can have at such tiny creepy crawlies. I enjoyed my visit today and your creativity. Your poem will get your readers relating to their own experiences.

Fear indeed is something that is palpable, has an odour of its own and can feel like one is on fire in the bowels of Hades. A piece to make one think presented here.

Thank you so much
Powerful and pertinent take on 'Fear'. Wow! I felt it. Fear is a powerful survival mechanism; it can be rational or irrational.
A good one.
