Sky

Sky

A Poem by D. Mansfield

Late afternoon, driving west, into the tired, worn out day,
colorful sky, of chessmen, waiting on a board to play.
Stretched out, before me, sunset of pink and salmon,
in shapes, of all sizes, and things, to be imagined.

Later now, driving, with headlights on,
two lane highway, trying to stay awake.
Cars and trucks, just, blurs of light,
sometimes blinding, but always too bright.

As morning, shows me, it's tired, sleepy eyes,
a town, the sign says, in only five miles.
Another motel, with a noisey room, adjoining.
Tomorrow 4 hours away, with a cheap breakfast in the morning.

Wow. I like this. It puts you behind the wheel. A road warrior blinded by lights and exhaustion. Nice work.

Thank you, I appreciate you reading,
sounds like you are too close to falling asleep at the wheel and those constant bright headlights don't help out at all
Definitely time for motel city

That's true, I have to pull over when I get like that. And with age comes the too bright lights.
It is that moment you realize that you are now only 4 hours away from your destination that makes the entire trip worth it, cheap breakfast and all. Nice one.

Thank you will, I appreciate you
You took me on the journey with you. Not one I am familiar with. A different experience and laden with imagery. One I see in the movies but not in real life. Nicely penned DM.

Thank you Chris, it was nice having you along
Been there done that. This poem revives old memories of driving through such areas and is well painted with vivid images. Well done
