Footsteps

Footsteps

A Poem by Paul A. Lyons

My eyes keep closing
The night ahead seems distant.
Peace, in the quiet storeroom
Footsteps brake in, fading my dreams
Awaking the nightmares
In within
My eyes keep closing
Waiting
The footsteps seem near
I can feel its eyes
Glaring at me
Its smile
Evil
Its teeth pointy
Like knives
My eyes keep closing
But they must not
Its breathing behind me
I feel its hand
Touching my neck
It's cold
Its nail long, sharp,
Travels through my face
The footsteps don't cease
There are more of them
They all smile, covered in blood
I'm next
I know it
They revolve me
I see its face staring right at me
Its blood filled mouth smiles at me
Revealing its sharp teeth
Its red eyes see mine with out a blink
Its clownish faces rotates while it laughs
Blood drips out of its eyes
I feel its claws rip through my neck
While time slowly stops
I see its mouth fully open ready to take
A bite out of my face
I hear footsteps
They all turn around
They smile
It turns back to me
Smiles
And just before he leaves
He looks at me
And runs its tongue through my face
Tasting me
They leave
One by one
Back into the closet
The footsteps cease.
But I can't sleep
I never will.
