Sly as a FoxA Poem by DonaldThis is a tale of a young girl, lost in the world, but able to survive, with her wits and speed, until that fateful day indeed.Sly as a fox, but twice as quick, waiting for love, to do its trick.
Waiting for love, to come from above, for the sky to open, and shower her with love.
She waited so long, for this to be, as she waited alone, standing by the sea.
She would look afar, to see what she could see, for what was coming, and what truly could be.
Her love had gone, so far away, to an unknown place, unknown to this very day.
She would earn a living, the best she can, picking a few pockets, lying on the sand.
Doing a little shoplifting, with a certain amount of care, to live again, for her love affair.
She would dash here, and then dash there, grabbing things, as long as she dared.
But then the day came, when they called her name, arrested for all she had claimed, for she was wild and never tamed.
Her rights were read, with a certain amount of dread, then off to jail instead, where her life hung seemingly by a thread.
But a stranger he seemed to be, as he came from the sea, paid her bail, to set her free.
But long ago, he went to the sea, to search for his fortune, and his love to be.
A skinny young girl, who lived on the streets, left in his care, acting like a freak.
But this girl, was so beautiful to see, he did his duty, he wondered what was to be.
For this was his daughter, that he left by the sea, to make his fortune, who he then set free.
for life had been cruel, to this girl instead, thrown out of her home, life full of dread.
Her mother had died, so long ago, died of the loneliness, her heart did sow.
With bills piling up, and no end in sight, her father had gone, for so many nights.
The man came to take her away, to another house, to stay, so she ran away.
As she started to walk away, a voice inside her, told her to stay, for this was no man to leave this day.
She studied him for his head to his toes, and saw a glimmer in his eye she knows, but when was it, so long ago.
Was it a man, who had showed her kindness one day, gave her some food and a place to stay, but then she said nay.
In the back of her mind, that dim memory grew, until that magic moment, and then she knew.
Then she smiled wide, and then said hi, for her father had come home, that is why.
