Lords of Electricity

Lords of Electricity

A Poem by Donald
"

Public Utilities that is the theme of my latest work. I am always afraid to look at my electric bill, and then I ask myself where is the money coming from for this. What they charge is a crime.

"

Hear me now,

please hear my plea,

for I beg of thee.

I am a lost soul at the mercy.

I am helpless at the hands of the power company,

for they are mighty and I am small,

and they control all,

the heat and light we need.

They charge a fortune,

to light a house,

but still to them,

it is a luxury.

For they have no competition,

no one to fear,

but their own greed,

it does appear,

For only someone rich and mighty,

can afford the rate they charge nightly,

and the rest of us are out in the cold,

if I am saying so bold.

For a cold winters night,

they wait,

for us to beg and plead,

for them to relent.

This is not right,

this is not just,

for them it is a must,

to freeze us thus.

Power is not a luxury,

But a basic necessity,

To light our home,

And to feed our families.

Perhaps some laws should be passed,

before the public is tasked,

to take matters in their own hands,

and then storm their gates and make demands.

A just and fair rate is expected,

not the monstrous sum,

that is collected,

and then paid to stockholders and the like.

What of the poor soul,

who cannot pay what they owe,

should they suffer so,

and live like rodents underfoot.

Stepped on and hounded,

is unfounded,

for everyone has a right to life,

and to live regardless of the strife.

This country cares not for the poor,

who have neither the funds nor,

time to beg for more,

and out of sight like an eye sore.

A monopoly they are and will always be,

with no competition to hamper thee,

they thrive and grow,

off the ill-gotten gains from me.

For the time is now,

for someone to make a stand,

and carry this across the land,

no more tyrants and thieves.

For we would be the better without these,

to stand up tall and proud,

and to sing out loud,

this is a free and proud land.

Donald
The power company charges a small fortune to supply energy, and it is a basic necessity of living. They should be horse whipped for it.
