Icy ReignA Poem by DonaldHave you ever lived through an ice storm. On the surface it may look beautiful and unique, but there are dangerous things. they disrupt power and cover the roads with dangerous ice. People lose lives. The cold wind blows, rain quickly freezes to everything, branches strain to hold their heavy load. Everything bears witness to the fury of God. For that is what a winter ice storm is, it is an icy reign on the land. Ice covers everything in sight. Limbs bend and then break from all the weight. Power lines fall and soon everything is dark and cold. For that is the way of things during this cold and wet night. Cars slip and slid on the roads. People lose their balance and fall. In this icy reign of terror throughout the night. The next morning shows the effect of the brutal storm. Branches lie about broken and in disarray. Power lines lie on the ground beckoning the innocence to them, to give them a deadly shock and end them. People starve and shiver in the cold. For there is no heat or way to prepare their meals. Soon the pickup begins. To try and restore order to the disorder of the world, and try to restore sanity to an insane life. Work crew work throughout the nights. To restore the power to those without. To return life to order here and about. © 2013 Donald |
