Faith Misplaced

Faith Misplaced

A Poem by Donald
"

Have you ever lost something a for the life of you, it could not be found. Then later when you least expect it you find it. Anything can be lost and found, even faith.

"

You knew you had it somewhere,

but you could not remember where.

The last time you were at the church and you remembered having it there.

But somewhere along the line you lost it and you were not feeling fine.

Somewhere you had lost you faith.

Not permanently mind you but,

still it bothered you.

Was it at the store when you bought that dirty magazine.

Or at the adult theater,

where you caught that show.

You thought you had it both places,

but you are not sure.

Maybe you lost it when the bum asked for a handout,

you gave him the back of your hand for his trouble.

Perhaps that bum picked your pocket while you were not looking and he has it.

Then you thought,

that's not right.

Something is wrong.

Maybe I never had it to begin with.

I should have given the bum some money,

I could afford it.

So you went back where the bum was staying.

At first there was fear in his eyes from your previous attack.

You apologized for you behavior and handed him all the cash in your wallet.

He thanked you and ran away.

Then you went down to the theater and started to walked inside.

One of the girls was walking out and it was cold and she was wearing a tattered old coat.

You took yours off and then gave it to her.

Then you asked if she needed any help.

She replied that she still need money for this month’s rent,

her landlord told that if she moved in with him he’d forget about the rent.

You offered her your business card and told her to report there tomorrow for a better job,

and not to listen to your landlord.

The last place was the store where you picked up your magazine,

A young mother was trying to pay for some groceries,

but she had realized that she had no money.

The cashier told to leave the groceries behind and to leave.

You told him to put it on your account.

You then asked the mother what was her situation.

She explained that her husband had left her and their two children with no money.

He had told her that he had found another woman and he was leaving her.

You just gave her your home address and told her that you needed a housekeeper,

she could move in with her two kids.

Suddenly, there was a warm feeling in his chest.

Your heart was suddenly filled with joy.

You had found his missing faith.

You ran back home exclaiming that you had your faith back.

Now you knew what had happened to you.

Your faith had been misplaced and now you had it again.

By these few acts you had restored your faith in people and in life.
