Sing For My SupperA Poem by Debbie BarryA new nursery rhyme about the 18th Century, illustrating the poverty of the time, written in the style of the time.Sing For My Supper
I will sing for my supper, Let me sing you a song; For a loaf and some cider, It won’t take very long.
I will sing you a ballad, For a few coins and meat; I will sing for a pittance, You will find my voice sweet.
I will sing for your comp’ny, Let me sing you a tune; My poor stomach is empty; I must earn something soon.
I will sing you a love song, Or a comedy lay; Let me sing for your pleasure; For I must eat today. © 2018 Debbie BarryAuthor's Note
