Worn Out ShoesA Poem by DJuan ThomasHow far we go for love unrequited.
Shoes on my feet and I've logged
A million miles. I've climbed Kilimanjaro And soothed my parched tongue With a cup of lava. I'm strolling the length of the Great Wall of China on a pebble But somehow I can't get to Where you are. I could run from France to Mongolia: Sipping wine from the Reve Gauche, Squeezing a yak teat for tepid milk, But you're nowhere to be found. I would dip my tired sole in the Ganges And tear down the Taj Mahal If it meant that you'd take notice, But you won't and I'm knackered. So now I'll walk slowly, sweetly From the head-shaped columns of Easter Island To the golden statue at Rockefeller Center And skate on thin ice.
