2002 Grande Prix

2002 Grande Prix

A Poem by DJ Adamczyk
"

An actual incident that had happened to me early this year in January

"
Left turn signal
Merge over into lane
Turn the radio's volume up
Minutes pass...

Thinking thoughts that don't matter
Eager to crawl into my bed
Maybe scavenge through the fridge and cupboards
Doze off with The Colbert Report on

Reality hits
As I hit black ice
The snow glazed road
Allows my car to slide uncontrollably

And just like that
Time had almost come to a stop
But my car hadn't and neared the median
F**k.

Impact
A sharp jerk forward
Belongings in the back of car fly to the front
As I am restrained by the safety belt

Sparks fly
Hell's flames?
They fade as I bounce off the wall
But appear with vengeance as more collisions strike

What seemed an eternity
Merely lasted seconds
And wasn't long enough
For Satan to welcome me in

The car slowed
Time resumed
I breathed life back in
And exhaled near death

The white night
Quite
As if my occurrence
Never occurred

No airbags had deployed
No more left headlight
All was left
Was a silent drive home
