The Scarred Life

The Scarred Life

A Poem by Divya Punjabi
"

The poem depicts a girl who is the victim of domestic violence and rape... Its main aim is to point towards the helplessness and intolerable pain.. which the victim has to suffer..

"

No matter how much she tried to fight,
Oh! it happened again last night.

Every night she was scrawled and dragged and screamed,
Every night he won their hide and seek.

The dark tale of nights let her shiver all day,
And the mirror declared her ugly, in the ferocious way.

She sighed and sighed from dawn to dusk,
She pleaded and begged till her hope got rust.

The impression of his strength, he left on her neck,
And his bloody fingerprints still holding her hands.

This was his way to show his love,
Now she feels sorry, for the care she served.

At last she took a step, to release her from pain,
She fled from her love story, which was badly failed.

She left her life behind, Oh! The poor girl's gone,
Leaving that monster with his manly fashion, alone.

"And the mirror declared her ugly, in the ferocious way." Throughout the entire poem you wrote it in 3rd person, but what I liked about the quote that is written as my first line is, the mirror details her as being ugly which the perspective from what she sees. It is the purpose of a mirror, to see what you see for yourself. A line many might have over looked. So the when you read that line with that in mind you can understand her suicide, not only from that but it is a factor. Great job, I really enjoyed it.
