Butterfly Bandages

Butterfly Bandages

A Poem by Audrey Howitt

Carl Spitzweg, Der Schmetterlingsjäger

Paint shut my wound

with butterfly bandages

on pinks and blues and greens

to cheer the unwary

as they land

each in an appointed spot.

Stretch and pivot.

Stretch and pivot

shut.

I look down at the hole

where my heart was,

now covered in flutters

and wonder why.

Thank you John!
You bring to life amazing visions, fantastic realities, we would not share in with--or be enriched by--anyone else, anywhere.
"Butterfly Bandages" is an incredibly lovely example.
Thank you, Audrey!

Thank you Frank! I so appreciate your read and comments my insightful friend!
Love the picture of flutters patching the wounded heart, this opened a window,I had a
thought about a leaf and Dragonfly hovering in mid air together, if I get it worked out I'll write it down .

Thank you so much Kent!
haunting yet moving. A touching love poem in a loss format. "paint shut my
wound". Great first line and wondering, to me, is a sort of unclaimed
comfort...thanks for sharing this.....hder.

the image of butterflies fluttering where your heart used to be is amazing! Wonder- an attempt to heal or survive or like a butterfly, transform? I have to say I really love your writing style.

This paints a really exquisite and enchanting picture! A fabulous poem. It seems to me that being and or seeing a swarm of beautiful butterflies can heal a lot! Enchanting..!!
