The Jar Beneath My Tongue

The Jar Beneath My Tongue

I keep my disappointment in a jar beneath my tongue
and I let it roll around there sometimes
just to see what it tastes like.

Sometimes when I am feeling alone
I take it out,
check its color,
its veneer--
--bright blue lapis.

Today it slides easily
from one side to another
and a coolness seeps out--
cucumber and mint.
It isn't what I expect of disappointment really.
I had thought a bitter flavor,
or spicy,
so I could feel my anger.

Today as it slips and rolls
in its coolness
I wonder if anger will come
or will its coolness soothe~

"I keep my disappointment in a jar beneath my tongue
and I let it roll around there sometimes
just to see what it tastes like." I am just shaking my head wondering how someone can so brilliantly think of and pen this! Truly.
Disappointment is so hard to swallow, and keeping in a jar (to prevent spillage and messes) to "roll around", this is just too incredible.

This entire poem is mesmerizing. I have read it over and over and love the flavor!

I have just discovered how to add favorites so this will be my first. :)

From my view I see this as holding ones tongue. Listening to all the ramblings of some people can drive you mad. Sometimes words even slip out without thinking about it. Really like the imagery.
Good poem.

hmmm is this your version of a cuss jar? lol
I'm kidding....

The color blue...it cools it soothes...the taste, it depends on the mood. :)
love the pic and the metaphors. Nice work.

Color's describe our moods, feelings.....so much, such a fantastic way of exhibiting this.

Excellent... A jar beneath your tongue. Now that's my kind of style, a unique and difficult metaphor that is exemplified throughout and deepened. Interesting, too with imagery to add! "Today as it slips and rolls
in its coolness
I wonder if anger will come
or will its coolness soothe~"

Whoa! I can honestly say that I have never seen anything like this before. This little jar amazed me. The imagery was bold, to say the least. I love how the flavors inside the jar flare up and die down with time.

Very creative and impressive. A truly unique poem. Love the idea of disappointments having tastes....what do we do with our disappointments, accept them or let them put us in a rage. Nicely done.
