The Carpet of Heaven's Door

The Carpet of Heaven's Door

A Poem by Audrey Howitt

Night beckons

and moon, full of restive temptation

answers fruitfully--

Incline yourself

upon the seal of my soul

and bend my ear

that I may again

hear the gentle murmurings

of earth’s heart

beat in time with my own.

O tender, tender moon

you leave the imprint

of your maidenhood

as you salve

the dry earth

your moon’s blood bestowing.

Sow your seed

in the time of new moon

and yield,

again and again

to the carpet of heaven’s door.

Very difficult to write something new about the moon, as it has inspired poets from time immemorial - yet you have succeeded. Apart from the poetic images the 'voice' that you have created here has a texture that the reader can almost feel as she/he reads.
Beautiful piece.

Audrey, you write about emotions and reflections with grandeur, and the images of the natural world emerge like dream vision from the imagery.

Perhaps it's your diction, but your poetry has a certain timeless feel to it, like the poets who has been long outlived by their own words. Every piece is different and enjoyable, you can tell that you enjoy writing :)

You have an elegant, ageless ambiance that tingles on the tip of your tongue. Victorian with a modern twist. Biblical phrases that give your poetry an authoritative touch. I'm quite fond of it. Your style demands deep musing... can be read over and over with a different result. And for that I thank you. Don't come across work like this that often anymore.

a song to the moon while the moon sings...Audrey, i'm sure the moon is pleased...you've captured a radiant beam with the praise of your words

Surreal..with a magestic appeal. This poem was heavenly by design. Your words carefully chosen and executed with perfection. I really...really enjoyed reading this.
