I Sing The Night Alive

I Sing The Night Alive

A Poem by Audrey Howitt

Alone, I hold the shimmer of you

Between fingers splayed,

As they play the music of your name.

Alone, the moon washes away

The burden of distance

Within the numinous glow of the star-saturated night.

Trees, ripe with pendulous branches

Sway to the hum of temptation

And brush the waiting earth

With tremulous forethought.

And, so clothed in cloak of leaf and bark,

I turn to you

And sing the night alive.

Alone, the moon washes away
The burden of distance
Within the numinous glow of the star-saturated night.

How I remember this feeling when gazing up at a time my lover and I were on opposite ends of the earth.

This is really lyrical, a joy to read.

There is this one thing I love particularily about the consciousness of women, it's their joy of creation and happiness simply to be alive [being very contagious]

Somehow your piece reminds me of such things...

I guess being in touch with nature does that to our perception :)

This put a moonlit image in my head...trees dancing, ghostly singing. Beautifully metaphorical!
