For Pain of Betrayal

For Pain of Betrayal

A Poem by Audrey Howitt
"

This is for a friend who is having a hard time

"

Penned amid the traitorous torrent

Of bitter betrayal,

I hold you close

To heart

And hand,

As I wander alone

Amidst the barbed testimony

Of acrimonious flood,

Holding back shuttered tears,

Coinage unspent in hell.

And I wonder what did I do,

Whatever in the hell did I do

To end here.

gripped in the vise of a wounded heart, we wonder at our scattered dreams...we stumble, we blame...now is the time to look inside...now is the time to grow...good fortune to your friend, my friend

The great thing...in life....no mater what we did or didn't do ...and no matter where we may be or not be...we have it within our grasp, to change it tomorrow...
I felt your pain and thought you shared it with honesty and compassion...
your use of metaphors only enhanced your tale
well done, Audrey

Something we can all relate to...we don't always know.

. what an absolutely perfect piece of writing ! ... brevity at its best ... these words flow straight to the heart ... where they linger and linger and linger ... beautiful poetry ... moving beyond measure ...

A very powerful and emotional poem here. A lot of hurt and pain. We've all mostly likely have walked upon that landscape, felt that kind of pain and asked that same question.

A heart breaking poem indeed! Those final three lines are ones that I am certain we have all wondered and asked from time to time.

As always, very well-written; strong in both lyric and imagery.
Those last three lines contain a question many of us have asked ourselves, more than we would have liked. For some situations--perhaps, like the one you refer to in this piece--a definitive answer is never found.
Heartbreaking poem, Audrey.
