I think it's only when we are not looking, or do what the astronomers do to see better....that is look at the star out of the of the corner of our eye, that we can really see ourselves. Your poem reminds me of the importance of not looking directly.

Since the eye cannot see itself, Audrey, try looking for yourself in reviews of the words that you write.
"Fool's Gold" is one profoundly insightful piece that basically claims lack of insight; a typically introspective offering written by a poet who may have difficulty believing the soaring beauty she consistently aspires to--and often brilliantly reflects in her writing--is who she truly is.
