panopticon

panopticon

A Poem by Dith
"

not really a poem just quasi-related ruminations

"

Living digital library
Banks of information
Voluntary profiling
Needed: new words for new surveillances
Public surveillance
Data Protection Act
Griswold v. Connecticut
Sentiment of an invisible omniscience

Linear filing system:
from star to space to solar system
to planet to planet to earth to sky
to land thru telescope thru eyes thru
retina thru optic nerve to brain
to memory to infinity to death
to shared infinity to star to
electromagnetic pulse

Material transfers
like golden bank servers
Cycling linear reality
Naked and frisked
Upload and be evidence
Everything is tagged
Fingerprints real and digital
"My personal email"
Passwords are protected
Techniques of liberalism
Self regulation
The vault and the master key
Exposed to all the elements
Subdued and seduced
Naked and frisked
Naked, metaphorical porn
Observer and observed
Exhibitioner and voyeur
Lost in thought
Boxed in and protected
Panopticon panoply
Protection as an end/goal
Surveillance as a means

The chill tide of 1984 arriving a little late.

I kept thinking of each of your buzz phrases hot linked to other oblique footnotes. I used to be into that more, and my hypertext storyworld Psiberia was taught in college. But nobody gives a s**t about hypertext as literary form but avant academics. I battle wilderness marginalization enough as it is. But I digress.

"Sentiment of an invisible omniscience" and the collage structure are redolent of Burroughs, that ol' cut-up prophet of surveillance society.

These "quasi-related ruminations" of yours summon up Elvis Costello's "Watching the Detectives" as some kind of f**k-you antidote to "panopticon" claustrophobia.

Pass me that invisibility potion, that cyber-erasure tool. Let the fascist shitbirds stare up their own bungholes -- colonoscopy world would be good for 'em. No wonder I used to write about interdimensional invaders mindfucking authority figures in their nightmares.

The more I think about it, psycho-spiritual invasion from within seems absolutely necessary to destroy the technocracy from without, these Tools using tools to turn the populace into tools. Lights out, nobody home.

Let's be the psi-sentient ocean in Solaris (the Tarkovsky original).
