Mirror giftsA Poem by Gerhardus Retief
Mirror Mirror how long before the fist goes through you?
Crackling sounds will be your cries of sheer laughter. Knowing you go much deeper into an empty wall. Pulling the flesh back hurts the most slicing every bit of pink. Theres an backward world inside your face thats staring at us. If we lived inside you the world would be wide open for many things. But you choose to keep it from us every time we try to enter. Why doesn't anyone seem to understand? Theres no way inside. Fallen clocks tick down the life inside you. Whispering when you will shatter onto our world destroying your own. Its like living a lie but bits of memories still live on the floor. No questions from the excuses that leaves us so confused. Explains why feelings are scribbled onto you in red smears. Maybe it is done so that you can give them back in the opposite. Given hurt should be brought back with mountains of joy. Yet only haunting mountains and empty tears are hanging on our shoulders. You are gone when we want to hide in you. Though only there when we bring you gifts of the dark inside us. Greedily you accept them leaving the marks in your upside down world. Wonder sweeps when another mirror brings you it's gifts. © 2011 Gerhardus Retief |
