Inside the ring

Inside the ring

A Poem by Gerhardus Retief

Look at the skin passing me like the speeding racers.
Throwing me off your ring finger with such force.
Why is your tears falling on me so quickly?
I land so hard on the ground being tormented by scratches.

Why are you holding a gun to your head way up there?
Your last blessings wont be given to you that way.
What happened to your relationship with the one you love?
I thought I was the one keeping you guys together.

Me lying here on the floor cracked to pieces means something.
Visions flying through my head trying to tell me your story.
My own enemy sounds just like me maybe its because it is me.

Why are you packing your bags so fast still in tears?
Memories are your best friend you understand them don't forget that!
Don't forget me don't leave me on this cold floor I don't want to be broken forever.

You are bringing me panic and confusion.
Sway me a exorcist because I want to get out of this red rock.
Its too late for me isn't it? There is no time.
I hope I will get the opportunity to feel what you feel one day.

Are you even listening to me? Of course not I'm just a ring.
Maybe thats just it. Thats all I ever was I never meant anything at all.
Since you understood the relationship so well maybe thats why you are filled with feeling.
I am left with none I don't even understand that is why this marriage is over because I never understood.
