Sad Memory

Sad Memory

A Poem by Gerhardus Retief

So I carve down about us again
I really miss you where ever you are
But I'm still keeping strong through the hollow home
Just like you said I should
I taught myself to swim through so many tides
But I wanted you to teach me yourself
I pray for you everyday no matter where you are
I look through these photos of us too
Sometimes I cry when seeing them so silent there
I even ate your favorite food today
Every night I stand outside waiting for falling stars
Just waiting for the right one to wish you back here
So that we can do what we used to do together
I still hear your soothing voice every time I think back
Sometimes I think your not coming back
But Ill never give up hoping even with these tears
When they come I find it hard to breath on my own
I read the Bible everyday just like you wanted me to
I hope the darkness wont cover me you warned me about
I'm writing this letter with that pen you gave me when you were here
I know you remember me even if you didn't take it with you
My soul will never go cold as long as I have these memories
They always slowly recall my mind
I don't like this world I'm living in at the moment
But its the only one I have
At least its in one full of promises
Some of them had to be broken but I'll always keep mine
I'll send my love for you every second of the day
I hope you don't get mad at me for that
Now the time has come for me to say goodbye
Even though I'm standing on a mountain,
Releasing this letter into the air hoping it will reach your mind
Even though your not here your the best parents ever
