The Last Phonecall

The Last Phonecall

A Poem by Gerhardus Retief

Ring tone...Beep Answering Voice..Very Gentle
Should Be Brief Cause Time Is Against Me
Don't Talk Just Listen...Take A Deep Breath It May Be Your Last
I Just Wanted To Tell You How Guilty I Really Am
Of Not Telling You Everyday How Much I Appreciate The Things You Do For Me
Wearing The Special Things On You Including The Nice Loving Smell And Doing Your Hair A Lot Changing It
You Start To Talk But I Shush You So Fast As My Voice Go Into A Hoarse Whisper
Looking Down Seeing The Blood All Around In The Crash Of The Car
My Voice Starts To Shake The World Grows Darker As I Start To Loose The Life In My Body
You Have Started Crying Over The Phone Asking Me Why I'm Telling You This Now
Your Voice Is Quivering Like A Quiver Of Arrows Striking Me With Thousands Of Them
Because My Body Is Broken And I Was In A Crash I Reply Slowly But Don't Worry About It Just Send The Angels To Get Me
I Barley Make Out How Much I Love You And Choke My Own Blood All Over The Phone
Boom...Phone Goes Dead...Dead Like Me
