Jack

Jack

A Poem by John D Phillips
"

The most obvious riddle-poem evar.

"

For two weeks you have rested there,

round and deaf and lurking,

outside my door in hollow sleep,

slouching, losing your sheen.

You almost made me regret the killing,

the way you clung to the knife

in strands, the terrible rending sound,

before you swallowed light,

but your demented grin each day

is sure revenge, your doomed

and crooked eyes so brightly carved

in my arrival home.
