Burning day

Burning day

A Poem by Gordon Purkis

Folks with time

to burn
tree limbs and
brush to burn

A gray
horse blanket
kind of day

To all appearances
cold,
yet life still burns,
a memory
a song

her green eyes
with their soft light

I love when poems amplify something so simple like this... You're so very talented. :)

I know comparison is something no writer wants to hear, but the line "grey horse blanket kind of day" reminds me so much of Yeat's poem, "The Fisherman." You're style is in no way similar to his, but this line, this admiration of something simple and beautiful for being so, reminded me of the tone of Yeat's poem. I really liked this piece. I like the imagery of a dreary day that still beams with so much light. Well done!
