Let Me Out

Let Me Out

A Poem by Ilana K

Here I am
Trapped in the cell of my own body
pounding on the windows of my skin
"let me out!"
I am screaming so loud that it echoes in my ear
like a tolling bell ringing

I can feel the blood-stained hands of fear
pulling me
deeper into my own pathetic existence
"Let me out!"
No one

I can never break free from this body
We are bound together,
like an ugly marriage
This healthy
fat
body
Cannot be mine
It cannot
But I look down and
all that I have worked for
all the pounding
all the screaming
all the bleeding
Has come to this
Sitting in the dark
with no one to free me
"Please," I beg, "please"
"Let me out"
