A Poem to Man

A Poem to Man

A Poem by John C. Chill

Look at the sky and you shall see,

There are no gods and spirits,

Only the great blue sea.

You may wish upon a star

For a worthwhile existence,

For the virtues of material riches,

Perhaps a simple love experience,

But the star will always explode

Where the horizon swallows the mountains,

And you will hear no answer from it.

The world is a vitreous realm of melted ores,

Forged by chance in an infinite lake of lava.

The meaning you seek came when you were still a child,

And the sorrow for the loss of it has yet to be vanquished.

Your death was never final,

Until you rejected its inevitable arrival.

It was not the star that doomed you,

And the gods never defined you.

Doom came from the absence of reason,

And the willingness of ignorance.

I cracked a big smile at the directness and bluntness of the second section there. "But the star will always explode" True. Ha. But profound words at the end. "Doom came from the absence of reason" I enjoyed the write, good job! Thanks for sharing.
