Falling Behind

Falling Behind

A Poem by defenestrator
"

One of a couple dozen poems I set to music years ago.

"

To see you like this,

almost puts my mind at ease.

To see these changes,

almost meets my wildest dreams.

It wasn't hard to think

you'd someday be complete.

It wasn't easy knowing

I might not mean anything.

And I'm so tired of

the silly game we play.

Finding each other

so we can run away.

And I'm guilty for you

each and every time.

But I know, he knows,

that I'm still behind your eyes.

And I find comfort

in your new perfect life.

And it takes all of me

to slowly fall behind.

I'm falling behind

Just fall behind,

just fall behind.

Still trying to find to find the comfort

of hiding behind your eyes.

Still feels like

I'm falling behind.

So funny, the silly games we play....are actually the things the keep us wanting more.

The last line of this particular stanza is breathtaking, mostly because of the familiarity:
"but I know, he knows..I'm still behind your eyes"....
My interpretation is as such: The object of your desires is a complicated person. Not being entirely fulfilled by anyone... needing both your fervent, romantic-chase...and "his"-"perfect-life".... (sigh)

I love this, I'm still planning on listening to these on facebook! (I promise!!). The "audio" part of my computer is corrupt...tomorrow, at work, I promise to listen. Gnite, My friend!

again, this is one of my favorits.

great parts:
To see you like this,

almost puts my mind at ease.

To see these changes,
almost meets my wildest dreams.
It wasn't hard to think
you'd someday be complete.

But I know, he knows,
that I'm still behind your eyes.
