Chapter Four

A Chapter by Dillon McFarlane

hey stuck together and went to the kitchen to collect the keys for the car. They kept on their hands and knees because they guessed that the killer could have a gun. Steven leapt up and raked around in the spare money jar for the pair of keys. Once he had retrieved them, Steven pointed out the door which led to the double car garage. They piled into the garage where a light was on and Steven unlocked the car.

“Who can drive?” Steven asked and Katherine grabbed the keys.

“Harry and Dave were the only ones who could drive,” Hannah was still weeping.

“Ok, everyone get in!” Katherine unlocked the car and everyone got in.

“Oh no! My phone!” Hannah cried and jumped out of the car to run back inside the house.

“Hannah, no!” Katherine shouted but nobody could stop her.

“I’ll get her!” Steven shouted and Katherine held him back.

“No!” Katherine shouted. “I’ll go!”

Katherine ran through, following Hannah. Hannah was in the living room and she was on the ground, backing up. Katherine stayed silent as Hannah screamed. She screamed because the murderer was standing in front of her. The killer took a swipe and ripped a lamp out of the wall and moved it between two hands. He lifted it high and Katherine watched as he brought it down rapidly on Hannah’s face. Blood gushed from a wound which opened in her gouged eye. Hannah screamed and the killer brought the lamp down again and again until Hannah ceased to move. Blood was splattered all around Hannah and she began to gurgle before taking her last breath. The killer dropped the remains of the smashed up lamp and quickly turned his head to Katherine who screamed and ran back to where she came from. The survivors, Steven and Flora were waiting outside in the garage when Katherine came running out.

“We have to get out of here...NOW!” She screamed and got into the car, starting the engine.

Flora was screaming.

“Hannah?”

“Dead, Flora!” Katherine screamed.

Flora began to weep.

They backed up once the engine was on and crashed out of the garage door. Suddenly, there was a huge crash and they realised that the tyres had popped. Katherine screamed and the car spun and stopped with a screech.

“What happened?” Steven asked gasping.

“I-I-I don’t know,” Katherine screamed.

“He’ll be out here soon so we have to get back to the house!” Steven said and opened his door.

“Come on, guys!” Steven waved to the group.

They came tumbling out of the car and ran with Steven back to the house. Once inside, they were suddenly plunged into darkness.

“He’s turned out the power!” Steven shouted. Katherine and Flora were panting and Flora sat down on the ground.

“Come on, guys! Go down into the basement! Shush!” Steven pulled his “friends” into the basement. When downstairs, he noticed the fuse box. He opened it and it was sparking. He pressed the main power switch cautiously and a surge of electricity shocked him.

Flora screamed when she saw him being hurt.

“Flora, I’m ok!” Steven yelled and shook his hand in the air violently, cringing.

“Steven, are you ok?” Katherine asked.

“Yeah I’m fine!” Steven was getting cross. Suddenly, there was a bright light in Flora and Katherine’s faces and Steven was holding torches. He gave one to Katherine and one to Flora and he kept one for himself.

“Come on! We have to get out of here!” Steven waved with his other hand for both of the girls to come with him up the stairs which creaked loudly with every step. Steven opened the door slowly and gazed out of the elfin crack that appeared in the door and gasped. He saw the killer’s back. The killer was looking out of the window, wondering if the survivors were still out there. He was really wrong.

“He’s right there, guys! After three we go out and grab him! One two three!” Steven pounced out of the door to grab the killer but he was gone. Suddenly there was a scream behind him and he turned to see Flora flailing her arms as the killer raised a sharp knife to her throat. She was screaming until Steven ran to the killer and pounced on him, clawing at him and attacking him. Flora got released and ran away, leaving Katherine and Steven alone with the killer. When the killer was unable to move, he and Katherine took off ran through all the rooms of the huge house, searching for the lost Flora.
