Chapter One

Chapter One

A Chapter by Dillon McFarlane

"Steven, Katherine will be here any moment, get down here!" Lauren, Steven McDonald's mum yelled up the stairs. It was the eve of Christmas Eve, the 23rd December. Steven was in his room talking to his friend, Neil about the killing that occurred in the neighbouring town of his huge house a midst no place, Toundland. A young woman was discovered dead; her throat cut open and the blood was spread everywhere throughout the room. She had no family...no one to grieve over her passing so they never set up an investigation. Steven lived with his mum and his dad was in prison for life after an event which occurred years ago in that very house. His father, on Christmas, went ballistic for some reason and tried to kill him and his mum. Since then, Steven had been taking pills and had been having fits and nightmares. No one was hurt but he swore he would come back. He swore with the look of pure evil on his face and a big crooked smile as he said the words:

“I’ll be back, Steven. I’ll be back!”

"I'm coming, mum!" He rapidly said farewell to Neil and headed ground floor, shutting his MacBook lid.

"So babes are you sure you’re OK on your own because you know how much I care, don’t you?" Lauren asked, carefully putting mascara on her eyes, gazing into the mirror without taking her eyes off of it. Steven sighed. His mum was going to go into a huge discourse

"Angel, I comprehend that you're wellbeing could be jeopardised any moment and I won't even be there to stop it. Look, darling, I won't be back till late so you will be resting. Anyway don't fuss because I will head off to bed, as well. Assuming that anything happens, assuming that you even sneeze you call me, alright?"

"Erm...yeah beyond any doubt mum," Steven answered.

"Mum would I be able to go away now, love you, bye!" He remained up and went through to the front room where he tossed himself onto the sofa and flicked on the TV. The opening to Family Guy was being sung and Steven grinned. There was a pounding at the front door and Steven ran past his mother who was likewise hurrying and got to the doorway first.

"STEVEN!" she yelled.

The door opened and Steven took a look at the sight before him. Katherine, the babysitter was drenched. Outside, the downpour was pouring vigorously and intensely.

"Goodness, dear Katherine," Lauren took her and walked her inside.

"I am extremely sorry with what has befallen you, Katherine."

"Goodness, that is OK, Mrs McDonald," she answered.

"Might you like a shower? Hang tight, I'll get you a towel," she grinned and ran up the stairs to recover a bath towel.  Steven took a look at Katherine.

"Hey, Kat!" He shouted.

"Hey, I'm Katherine. You know that. And you are?" Katherine asked.

"Piglet Johnson," he answered with a snicker.

"Hi, Piglet," she answered and snickered with him.

All of a sudden, there was an immense sigh as Lauren ran down the stairs and gave the towel to Katherine who took it from Lauren's hands.

"Much thanks, Mrs McDonald," Katherine shouted.

"If it’s not too much trouble then please call me Lauren," Lauren answered. Katherine ran upstairs to get washed.

"She's decent, mum. Where d'ya get her?" Steven asked his mother.

"Don't be inconsiderate… I discovered her ad," she answered. "I can't really believe she has driven this far for you."

It had been 20 minutes and Katherine strolled down the stairs with a change of garments.

"You dress like my mum, Kat," Steven said to her.

"Much appreciated. She left me a change of clothes. Is she gone?" she answered.

"Correct. She's gone," he answered. "Just you and me."

"Wow great!" she took a telephone from her pocket and dialled a number. Steven was befuddled.

"Hey Dave. I'm ready!" she hung up the telephone and sat alongside Steven.

"Steven I need you to promise something to me, yeah? Promise that you won't tell your mum that I am doing this, alright?"

"I… promise?" Now he was completely confused.

"Great kid!"

She bounced up and headed off to the door and opened it.

"Wow oh my god, Dave!"

Steven raced to the way to witness the landing of one of Katherine's buddies? Sweethearts? Siblings?

"Hey, angel face!" Katherine gave the man a colossal embrace.

The man planted an enormous kiss on her lips and she dragged him through to the front room, chancing upon Steven on the route there.

Steven accompanied them.

"Katherine?" Steven asked. Katherine sighed and advised Dave to stay in the room while she headed off to converse with the infant. She went out into the corridor and she asked him what was wrong.

"Katherine, I don't recall Mum saying that you or I were allowed visitors! Do you?" Steven was being inconsiderate.

"Pardon me, Stevie. I am answerable for whatever you do and I am your guardian for the night, alright? Now you head off up to your room and message your little friends while Dave and I are down here. Go!" Katherine waved him to go away.

He glared at her and ran up the stairs to his room. He went into his room and opened his MacBook cover. A Facebook message popped up from Neil. It read:

'Steven how could you tell the entire school? You're an idiot and I hate you! You are not my friend any more. Never contact me again!'

Steven was confounded. He couldn't believe his eyes. He never told the school anything. He didn't even know what Neil told him. Somebody must have hacked him and told heaps of people. He couldn't think. He moaned and close his portable computer cover down and plunged into bed. On his X-Box 360, he clicked onto Netflix and started streaming the most recent blood and guts film as he swapped DNS codes which let him gain access to Netflix US. The film was called 'Don't Open the Door'. It was around a babysitter who continues getting horrendous telephone calls and the executioner executes the visitors at a gathering in a house a midst no place.

Steven was somewhat terrified as it was the same sort of setting as his house. But it would be Katherine who would be getting the calls if it was real and not him. He would most likely be the victim. He took a look at the clock. It was nine o'clock in the evening. Abruptly, the front door shook. He heard Katherine race to the door chuckling. At that point she opened the door and more visitors started to arrive.

"No more!" Steven snatched his iPhone and opened it. He dialled his mum's number.

"BEEP. Sorry. There is no signal in your general vicinity. If it’s not too much trouble then please try again later," the automated bearer voice said.

"Sugar!" Steven flung the telephone over the room and made a stunned face and took a look sight it, thinking about whether it was broken. At that point he saw it was most certainly not. He sighed. All of a sudden, he heard Katherine shout.

"Aaaaahhhh!" She screamed

Steven blast out of bed and ran down the stairs.

"Katherine?"

He continued yelling her name until he got to the kitchen where he saw his babysitter in the kitchen with a man remaining over her with a blood-stained blade. He plunged the blade profound into Katherine's stomach and she moaned and tumbled to the ground. In stun, Steven only remained there. The "executioner" spun his head back and gazed at him. Abruptly, there was laughter. He saw Katherine favouring the ground. At that point she started to cackle louder and louder until she opened her eyes and burst out chuckling.

"Are you kidding me?" Steven shouted as the man who had murdered Katherine pulled of a mask and he was giggling underneath it. Katherine remained up and licked her blood-stained fingers. Tomato sauce. More than five individuals entered the room behind him, making him jump and heave out boisterously.

"Do you want to tell me what you are doing, Katherine?"

"Nope!" Katherine answered. "I...we got you great, didn't we, guys?"

There were nine individuals in the room. Dave the killer, Katherine, him and six others. The assembly of six others comprised of three young ladies and three gentlemen. Part of the gang, a blonde haired man, gave Dave a high five. Steven saw a couple making out on his gigantic kitchen table.

"Oi! Why d'ya make me frightened like that, Kat?" Steven was enraged.

"What are you set to do, Stevie? Phone your mum? The mobile signals are off and I've taken out the telephone," she answered. She had been busy. Me and Dave and these guys need a party and you're not going to demolish it. You're mum called before I unplugged the phone and let me know she wasn't going to be home until 4:30 so you're stuck with us!"

"Everybody out! Now!" Stevie answered in fury.

"Nope, angel face. Just no," one of the other ladies answered.

"See. Hannah wants to stay. Hang on watch this," Katherine started indicating individuals. She indicated a brunette lady.

"Flora, would you like to take off?"

Flora shook her head with a grin.

"Nope."

"Do you want to go?"

Katherine pointed at Amy and she additionally said no. At that point she pointed at the other three men.

"I know Paul, Harry and Jamie want to stay, don't you?"

They all said yes.

"Hey, kid. Go away!" hollered Jamie and got a packet of crisps out of the cupboard.

“Catch!” He threw the crisps to Steven, who caught them. Then he got out a packet of chocolate biscuits.

“There. You’re set for a horror movie marathon or that stupid Family Gay stuff,” Jamie replied. Jamie had wavy blonde hair which covered one eye. It didn't suit him as he also had lots of piercings inside his ears, his nose, and his lips. He even had one on his eyebrow.

“Come, on. MUSIC!” Flora, the brunette woman screamed with energy.

The other two women Amy and Hannah screamed in excitement and ran through to the lounge.

“Don’t break anything!” Steven shouted and ran upstairs.

Featured Review

Usually, I'll read just the first chapter to see how it goes and if it pulls me in to read the second. There're many stories about the rebellious babysitter (preferably female) who brings her boyfriend or other friends at her employer's house. Since this is the first chapter, I don't know where or when the actual conflict will start. Just at the third paragraph that starts with " 'So babes are you sure you’re OK...' ", the last sentence in that paragraph needs a period. That's all I saw. Make sure to continue to flesh out Steven and his personality, make him seem real and possibly a likable character. Also, make sure your extra characters (Katherine, her friends) aren't just two dimensional. Keep it up, though!
