We've Got Tonight

We've Got Tonight

A Poem by The Analog Kid
"

I didn't like this song when it came out. I heard it in a movie a few years ago and really got hooked by the second verse...

"

Well I sit here trying

to convince you

that the planets

will never line up

like this again

we’ve done the dances

can’t help circumstances

loneliness is killing me

and I know you’re not free

so you keep

coming up with

reasons why

but deep in my soul

I hear that symphony

that we can ignite

right now between

you and me

The opening is stellar. It is beautiful in it's simplicity.

we’ve done the dances
can’t help circumstances
loneliness is killing me
and I know you’re not free

recognition between two people that neither one of them are where they want to be?

I love this song...we do only have now...I love your piece more than I can say..I love this part... "I know your plans don't include me, still here we are ...both of us lonely ...both of us lonely ...."

good work...

I remember the song well.. such a distinctive voice.. Your words move like a dance through the music... can feel the power of that moment shared... Beautifully done.

See, I love this song and always have. Along with its companion piece, "Love the One You're With." :D My favorite part is when he sings "I know your plans don't include me, still here we are ...both of us lonely ...both of us lonely ...." like he has to convince himself.

The second stanza of your poem is particularly beautiful. You capture the immediacy and wistfulness of this song perfectly. The ultimate carpe diem.

WE must take advantage of every moment that comes with a loved one for time waits for no one and life isn't guaranteed.
